| The research described above addresses the complex problem of teaching chemistry in a research-based strategy to non-majors with diverse backgrounds and career aspirations. Effectively employing interdisciplinary case studies and active business models, this methodology focuses on a student centered instructional approach that combines group learning and guided inquiry. Complex topics such as bioorganic chemistry are investigated with the assessment of student learning outcomes, which is both qualitative and quantitative. Research results are used for improvement of curriculum and ultimately enhance the research culture within the department. |
