New Yb-Pt phases have been synthesized in Pb flux and characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction. Preliminary structure determinations have been used to construct structural models. “Yb2Pt3” crystallizes in a monoclinic space group P21-m with approximate lattice parameters a = 5.0850(5), b = 5.4980(5), and c = 15.9060(17) Å. “Yb4Pt7.2” crystallizes in an orthorhombic space group Cmmm with approximate lattice parameters a = 13.5550(5), b = 13.3720(5), and c = 5.6540(3) Å. The structures of these compounds will be studied for comparison.
