Elementary school teachers in California are under pressure to teach chemistry to comply with the California Science Standards and the State's testing demands. For the majority of these teachers their last chemistry course was in high school. In addition, most teachers recall their experiences in chemistry classes as being very unpleasant and they are chemo-phobic. This poster will address teacher's conceptions and views of chemistry before and after one-week course that is inquiry-based, hands-on and designed to foster curiosity and appreciation for chemistry.
