An open inquiry approach to the organic laboratory is challenging and time consuming, yet rewarding for those students who have the necessary aptitude and motivation. Honors students are generally self-selected and they apply for candidacy to the honors section, a second semester organic laboratory course. Our approach for organizing, initiating, orchestrating and completing the one-semester honors laboratory course will be presented. Students are expected to establish their own research goals with the assistance and guidance of the instructional team. Students carried out their plan over the course of a semester. Student results and assessment data will be presented.
