Tripodal bis(imidazole)thioether and tris(imidazole) ligands 1 and 2, which provide ligand sets essentially identical to the Cu(M) and Cu(H) active sites of copper hydroxylase enzymes, have been prepared along with their corresponding Cu(I) complexes. The latter compounds form adducts with carbon monoxide, isocyanides and dioxygen that have been characterized spectroscopically and crystallographically. Comparisons of the structures and reactivity of these complexes with the enzymes will be presented.
