I first met Doris and Ken Kolb at the Great Lakes ACS meeting at Bradley University in 1972, the year of the first edition of Chemistry for Changing Times. They were invaluable supporters of my efforts from the beginning. When I needed help in 1994 with the seventh edition, Doris said, “I will help you.” And help she did, contributing much to the spirit and flavor of the book. Her help has been invaluable through subsequent editions. Now in the eleventh edition, which is dedicated to her memory, I see Doris's hand everywhere. Her contributions to Chemistry for Changing Times and indeed to all of chemical education will live on for years to come, not only in her many publications, but in the hearts and minds of her many students, colleagues, and friends. There is no greater purpose in life than trying to make this world a better place. There is no better model for us to follow in fulfilling that role than Doris Kolb.
