The synthesis and characterization of novel tridentate octahedral vanadium(III) phosph(on)ate clusters will be presented. These vanadium phosph(on)ates have, in general, a V4P4O12 core. A monoanionic tripodal ligand is used to complete the octahedral ligand field around the vanadium centers. The phosphorus atoms remain tetrahedral. Different clusters can be synthesized by varying the phosphonate salt used (RPO(O)2, R = Me, tBu, Ph). The results of these investigations will be discussed.
