From my position as a high school chemistry teacher in New Orleans, I will discuss the effects of Hurricane Katrina on high school students, the difficulties our school encountered as a result of the hurricane, and how we are currently dealing with the continuing hardships. I will also outline the chemical safety issues arising for schools in the area. I will give my perspective on the plight of students, and what I perceive to be the lasting effects on their education.
