Implementing POGIL in a high school chemistry course: Struggles and successes

Informal sharing of how two teachers at BCS have attempted to incorporate teaching and learning practices consistent with the POGIL philosophy into a first year high school chemistry course. Includes the tension of balancing student, parent, and administrator expectations against the evidence supporting POGIL success at the undergraduate college level. Addresses such issues as the nuts and bolts of emotional support for frustrated students, math readiness, group learning dynamics among 10th and 11th graders, textbook adoption pressures, curriculum material development challenges, ACS HS Chemistry Exam use.
