Two general methods were developed for the synthesis of alkali metal salts of 2-substituted-1,2-oxaborolides. 2-Phenyl-1,2-oxaborolide was converted to Cp*Ru complex and to Mn(CO)3 complex, in which the metals are 5-bound to the ligand. For the first time, 2-substituted-1,2-oxaborines were successfully prepared through ring-expansion reaction of 1,2-oxaborolide and methylene chloride with BuLi as base. The coordination chemistry and aromatic characters as well as Diels-Alder reactions of oxaborines were also investigated.
