Development of chirality-specific seeded growth for SWNT amplification

The ability to generate significant quantities of SWNT with specific chirality is critical for use of nanotubes in advanced applications. We have been developing a CVD style reactor in which seed SWNT with attached catalyst can be inserted via a carrier gas. The seed SWNT are captured in the CVD reactor and maintained in a growth environment. Growth of the seed SWNT ideally should reproduce the chirality of the nanotube and amplify the length. We will present ongoing work on seeded SWNT growth using catalyst and catalyst attached SWNT.
