Microchannel process technology has great potential for the intensification of selective catalytic oxidation processes. The short distances from the reactor wall to the process stream, and the close integration of exothermic oxidation with an endothermic process ensures that temperatures can be closely controlled to limit combustion and favor desired selective oxidation products. Results are beginning to emerge that demonstrate the advantages of microchannel reactors for partial oxidation in several commercially valuable processes. This talk will highlight some of these advantages from the author's recent work as well as key examples from the literature.
