| NiMo/Al2O3 type catalysts have been studied for ultra deep hydrodesulfurization of gas oil. Significant improvements in HDS activity were obtained by the addition of surface modifier to alumina support, such as silica and titania. In this work, the effects of surface modifier to alumina were studied by means of FT-IR of hydroxyl groups on the surface of supports, NH3-Differential Heat of Adsorption (NH3-DHA), Temperature Programmed Sulfiding (TPS) and FT-IR of adsorbed NO. These results showed that the addition of silica and titania weakened the interactions between the active metal and the supports, and improved the dispersion of Ni atom on the sulfided catalyst. It is concluded that these effects lead to the generating of the higher active NiMoS species and the promoting of the hydrogenation of 4,6-DMDBT. |
