Gas chromatography using chiral stationary phases is a powerful tool for enantiomeric analysis. Although cyclodextrin derivatives are currently the most general phases for enantioseparations, they often exhibit limited lifetimes and many of the more exotic phases are expensive. We are attempting to prepare new and structurally unique cyclodextrin derivatives in hopes of improving the performance of these phases. Our progress in synthesizing and analyzing various annulated β-cyclodextrin derivatives will be shown.
