The ‘Silicones and Silicone-Modified Materials' symposium in San Francisco will be our fourth such gathering of scientists and engineers from around the globe and it follows on from our symposia at the ACS national meetings in Dallas (1998), San Diego (2001) and Anaheim (2004). Over the past decade we have witnessed many new developments in the synthesis, properties and applications of materials that are based upon the siloxane bond. Some of the key findings and topical themes from the past symposia and the current symposium will be presented.
