The demand for scientists with experience in multiple disciplines continues to expand. The need for scientists with such diverse skill sets is being met by the Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) and the Entrepreneurial Medicinal and Polymer Science (EMPS) program which is a joint collaboration at the interface of medicinal chemistry and polymer science between University of Mississippi (UM) and the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). One of the techniques utilized to develop well rounded scientists during the initial core course of the EMPS program is examined through one of the class assignments.
