A series of antimicrobial quaternary 4-aminopyridinium salts were synthesized. The structures of the salts were fully characterized by using FTIR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR analysis. Besides, the antimicrobial efficacy of these compounds was evaluated by incorporated with wool protein fibers. All of the synthesized aminopyridinium salts showed antimicrobial activities against gram -negative bacterium on wool fibers. The structure-property relationships of the antimicrobial agents were further discussed.
