A series of amide-based anion receptors have been synthesized that encapsulate a variety of anions in multiple dimensions. In addition to simple two dimensional monocycles, these include bicyclic hexaamide cryptands as well as tricyclic octaamide cylinders. Different types of spacers between the amide functionalities include aromatic and heterocyclic groups as well as simple alkyl ethers. Anion binding with simple halides, oxoanions, and organic anions, well as anion encapsulation proclivities will be described.
