Abstract : A quick and nondestructive method using near infrared diffuse reflectance spectroscopy was presented to determine the contents of Vitamin PP(including both nicotinic acid and nicotinic amide). The optimum calibration was selected from 6448.9 cm-1 to 5446.2 cm-1 on the basis of minimizing the standard error of cross validation (SECV). The near infrared spectroscopic data which had pretreatment by mulitivitive scattering correcting to reduce the effect of extraneous noise was regressed by the partial least squares. Cross Validation was used to avoid overfitting of the equations. SECV of this method is 0.73 for nicotinic acid and 0.743 for nicotinic amide. Validation of R2 is more than 0.998 and the best rank was two. The relative deviations for 7 prediction samples are most under 3%. This predictive accuracy of undetermined sample gives satisfactory results.
