Synthesis and characterization of glucamine-functionalized dinitroxide

There is current interest in the synthesis of water soluble nitroxides for magnetic resonance imaging (EPR and NMR), protection from oxidative stress, radiative damage, and controlled free radical polymerization. Numerous S = water soluble mononitroxides have been prepared and studied for these applications. We wish to explore the potential advantages of high-spin polynitroxides. Synthesis and magnetic characterization of dinitroxide 1, functionalized with glucamine chain, will be reported.
