| Wettability of a series of smooth and rough silicon surfaces was examined. Rough surfaces were prepared by photolithography. Substrates were hydrophilized by dihydroxylation of surface immobilized vinyl silanization reagents. Spreading of water was observed on both smooth and rough surfaces immediately after preparation. Aging analysis was performed by storing the samples over various volatile organic solvents at ambient conditions. Contamination and increase in contact angle values were observed on smooth and several rough surfaces. However, sample with pattern number 2 maintained high hydrophilic character. Water spreads spontaneously even after 1 month of storage.
