| Silicalite-1 samples with crystal size ranging from 1000 to 20 nm were synthesized by systematically vary synthesis gel composition, pressure, temperature and time duration. These samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, N2 adsorption, toluene adsorption and Solid State NMR. Effect of crystal size on the physical properties of crystals is observed, including a large increase of total surface area and external surface area when crystal size decreases. The size dependence of external surface area (measured as BET area of as-synthesized sample) agrees well with the calculated external surface area from a simple model. Nano sized sample with large external surface area of nano sized silicalite-1 has higher adsorption ability for toluene, showing promising potential for its application in VOC removal. |
