The formation of organosilane thin films on a variety of surfaces has shown potential applications in materials chemistry, chemosensors, and biotechnology. A fluorescent label (2,3-naphthalene dicarboxaldehyde) was attached to the amino terminus of the silane molecules that made up the thin film. Fluorometry, confocal microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy were used to characterize the film.
