Mesoporous Ni(OH)2 was synthesized using sodium dodecyl sulfate as template and urea as hydrolysis-controlling agent. Mesoporous NiO with centralized pore size distribution were obtained by calcining Ni(OH)2. The surface activity of mesoporous nickel oxide was controlled by the different calcination temperatures and studied as electrode material in electrochemical capacitors. Galvanostatic discharging tests show that NiO calcined at 300 oC possesses the highest surface redox reactivity. Cyclic voltammetry shows the good capacitive behavior of these NiO samples
