We overview our recent studies in designing nanoscale surface layers with tunable properties from functionalized liner and branched macromolecules. These layers composed of binary polymer chains tethered to a silicon oxide surface by either grafting to or grafting from approach are capable of reversible switching their microstructure and morphology under external stimuli.
