Polymers play a critical role in the successful functioning of a patch for transdermal drug delivery. In the modern matrix patch design a polymer serves the dual function of adhering to the skin and maintaining a constant systemic dose. This paper will review the polymer and materials science which underlies this popular form of therapy.
