| Examination of methods for controlling and enhancing the stereoselective 2 + 2 photodimerization of cinnamamide derivatives are described as well as the effects of various catalysts on this reaction. Electron donating and withdrawing effects proximal to the double bond during dimerization are compared. Traditional methods do not exist for producing good yields of specific stereoisomers in an environmentally benign way. The use of large amounts of solvents for synthesis, separation and purification, illustrate the need for this synthesis to be made more "Green." |
