The transesterification of phenol with dimethyl oxalate over Stannum modified TS-1 was conducted to prepare diphenyl carbonate. The Stannum modified catalysts had fewer Lewis acid sites than unmodified TS-1, while the catalytic properties were prompted greatly due to the cooperation of Stannum with Ti-O-SiO3 Lewis acid center. The catalyst of TS-1 with 2wt% Stannum loading amount based on metal performed best, giving 50.3% conversion of dimethyl oxalate and 99.2% selectivity to target products. By the means of XRD, XPS and EDS, the relationship between the catalytic properties and structure and phase of Stannum dispersed on the surface of TS-1 was studied detailedly. The facts showed that below 2wt%, Sn was highly dispersed as monolayer, but in higher loadings it began to be crystallized into bulk Stannum dioxide. This leaded that the cooperation between Ti and Sn was not evident and the catalytic properties decreased with the increase of Sn loading.
