| The objective of this study was to optimize fouling control of RO membrane for reclamation of wastewater from a nickel-plating operation. A combination of spent alkaline rinse, acid rinse and nickel-plating rinse was used as a raw feed and an integrated UF/RO membrane process was applied in laboratory scale study. Different anti-scalants and various concentrations of the anti-scalants were tested and effect of feed pH was investigated. The results showed that the anti-scalants used did not improve the fouling when the feed pH was in a range of 6.5-6.8 under the normal operation conditions. Low pH of the feed in the range of 4.4-4.8 with low concentration of anti-scalant A even without an anti-scalant favored the fouling control. As a consequence, the stable relative flux of RO membrane with appropriate fouling control could be double of that without fouling control. |
