Nanoscale materials including nanoscale composite materials have great prospects in biological applications such as drug delivery tissue engineering. Interaction between nanomaterials and tissues or cells is still a focal question in science. Here we introduce the studies performed at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research on the interaction mechanisms between nanomaterials and tissues or cells, from both engineering and biochemical points of view.
